Sadis’ father is a retired schoolteacher, and his mother is terminally ill with cancer. They live in Bangladesh, and pin all their hopes on their eldest son, Sadi, staying in London and becoming a barrister. In this way he will be able to take care of his younger siblings. Sadi’s mother passes away. While dealing with his grief, he also faces the immense challenge of trying to attain British citizenship. He is almost deported, but his neighbour, Mr Hamid, has a daughter who is a barrister. She provides legal aid, assisting in his release. In due course, his dreams come true, allowing him the security of UK residency. The circle becomes even more complete when he earns parental pride by graduating from a top UK university. He becomes a barrister himself.
