Description
16 Nov Chaya

To save the city from a rat infestation, the mayor employs a piper for a huge sum of money, but then refuses to pay. In revenge, the piper lures the city's children far away with the captivating tune of his flute. He demands a ransom for their return, and this is where the story begins.

When the piper stops playing, the children gain consciousness. They realise that they are far from home and in confinement. They miss their families. They also realise that, even though they come from the same place and go to the same school, they don't really know each other. The piper can see their friendlessness and isolation. He spends time with the children playing and telling stories. He tries to teach the children about the realities of the world. He wants them to be aware of the traits of cruelty and dishonesty.

This tale emphasises the importance of genuine friendships and connectivity. This is even more crucial in a digital age when people spend more time online than in the company of others. Family time hardly exists. The white noise of the internet exposes the violence and selfishness of the world.

Can the children escape to freedom by working together? Does stepping out of the virtual world and collaborating with friends help to overcome barriers? This is a morality tale about spending time together to deepen human connections, stay safe and reclaim life’s nobler values.

About the Company: Theatre Shoishob is a creative platform for children and young people from the Bangladeshi community. They will perform theatre which blends puppetry dance, mime, music and song. These art forms tell new stories from voices that are unheard. This experience helps develop the child’s imagination and self-awareness.
