6 + 7 Nov Dont Hold Back River

Synopsis: Don’t Hold Back the River is based on oral history, original script and adapted performance text. It interprets migration stories from people who came to Britain from Bengal and Bangladesh in recent decades. It adapts stories from peoples’ lives, those who walk amongst us. This production explores the homing desire of the migrant. It delves into a sense of exile and assimilation; how they have sought, found or lost Bangla in foreign lands. The original script is being written on the basis of five interviews. These were with people who came to the UK under very different circumstances. Ultimately, they stayed back. The performance texts are adapted from Bengali songs and poetry from both sides of Bengal. They explore movement between nations through movement and dance-theatre.  These stories both reflect and aim to reinforce the bonds made by our homelands.

About the Company: Mitradheya is a performance and research collaborative. Debanjali Biswas is one of the co-directors. Biswas leads on research for the organisation.
