Synopsis: The Greeks Have 6 Words for Love is based on a true story. This is a story of friendship which straddles cultures and religions. It focuses on three residents of Tower Hamlets.
The play is set in the 22nd century. Researchers are trying to discover if love actually existed in the first decades of the 21st century. They see the prevalence of wars, hatred and fear stoked by social media.
Researchers discover recordings of conversations between the three friends. One is called Jelinek. She shares a surname with the man who spearheaded voice recognition for IBM in the 1970s. She is Jewish. The other two are nameless, but one is a Bengali cockney woman and the other is a Somali woman refugee.
The story explores numerous aspects of love, despite the barriers put up by communities.
About the Company: Alana Jelinek, writer, and Maheen Mohammadally, director are London-based artists. They have collaborated on this project under MMAJ Productions.
