Summary of responsibilities
- To chair meetings of the council so that its business can be carried out efficiently and with regard to the rights of councillors and the interests of the community.
- To attend civic and ceremonial functions as the First Citizen of the Borough.
- To promote public involvement in the council’s activities and to encourage citizenship and participation in the life of the borough.
- To act as an ambassador for the council and the borough, promoting and celebrating achievement and success.
- To receive members of the Royal Family and other important visitors to the borough.
