Imperial Island looks at the end of empire. Its aftermath is ever-present aftermath. It has divided and defined Britain over the last seventy years.
The books draws on a mass of primary sources. These include newspapers, government documents, TV shows, magazines, children’s books, letters and diaries. It shows how ordinary British people experienced life at the end of empire and after. It shows how imperialism continues to shape Britain today.
