Energy Bill Relief Scheme for businesses
The government has outlined plans to help cut energy bills for businesses.
Through the Energy Bill Relief Scheme, there will be a discount on business energy rates for six months from 1 October 2022. This discount will be applied on wholesale gas and electricity prices for all non-domestic customers whose energy prices have been increased significantly.
Wholesale prices are what suppliers pay for energy in bulk before they distribute it to customers. These are expected to be fixed for all non-domestic energy customers at £211 per MWh for electricity and £75 per MWh for gas. Less than half the wholesale prices anticipated for this winter.
Those rates will be the base cost, to which other add-ons like standing charges will be added by suppliers.
As with the Energy Price Guarantee for households, customers do not need to take action or apply to the scheme to access the support. Support will be applied automatically to bills.
