Ramadan guidance: Addressing noise concerns and ASB

As we enter the holy month of Ramadan, we would like to support our residents who will be observing this significant period of fasting, prayer, and reflection. During Ramadan, many residents will be waking up early for Suhoor (pre-dawn meal) and staying up late for Iftar (breaking of the fast). This may result in increased movement within homes, quiet conversations, the use of kitchen appliances, and cooking during the early hours of the morning.

We understand that some residents may be concerned about noise disturbances during these hours. However, we kindly remind everyone that these activities do not constitute anti-social behaviour (ASB). We encourage all residents to be patient and understanding of each other’s cultural and religious practices during this time.

At the same time, we ask residents observing Ramadan to be mindful of noise levels where possible, especially in shared accommodations or flats with thin walls. Small steps, such as closing doors gently and keeping conversations at a moderate volume, can help maintain a harmonious living environment for all.

We appreciate everyone's cooperation in fostering a respectful and inclusive community.  Thank you for your understanding, and we wish all those observing a peaceful and blessed Ramadan.

Ramadan is expected to begin on the evening of Friday 28 February and conclude on the evening of Sunday 30 March 2025. The exact dates depend on the sighting of the moon.

During this period Tower Hamlets Enforcement Officers (THEOs) will be conducting patrols in and around the borough to provide a visible presence and reassurance.
