Join the Isle of Dogs & South Poplar Community Development Panel
Giving local people a voice
We are looking to recruit local people who live or regularly visit the Isle of Dogs or South Poplar area to join the Community Development Panel.
Through this panel we empower people to shape the design of developments in your area.
What is the Community Development Panel?
The Community Development Panel reviews and comments on significant proposals at an early stage, to influence their design development.
The panel plays an independent, advisory role in our planning work, discussing issues including housing, transport, public and green spaces, and the environment.
This helps to ensure that new developments are of the highest possible design quality, and meet the needs of people living, working, studying and visiting the area.
The panel’s comments are written up into formal reports and considered as part of our formal decision making process.
How is the panel managed?
Frame Projects are responsible for:
- recruiting and managing the panel
- Making sure that it is independent.
- Making sure it is properly briefed, and able to effectively communicate its views.
Frame Projects provide panel members with the support needed for their role through free training sessions.
How often does the panel meet?
One meeting is scheduled each month on a Tuesday evening. The panel is expected to read a small amount of background information before thew meeting. Each member is appointed for a year.
Who are we looking for?
The Community Development Panel has 12 members, we would like to increase that to 20.
We're looking for people of all backgrounds and ages (18 or over), who live, work, study or visit the Isle of Dogs & South Poplar Opportunity Area (including Blackwall & Cubitt Town, Canary Wharf, Island Gardens and Poplar wards).
We especially want to hear from women, younger people aged over 18, people who do not identify as heterosexual, people with children and people with disabilities.
We’re keen to have people on the panel who know their local area well and who want to positively influence its future – whether you are a resident, student, employer, employee, or regular visitor to the area.
You do not need knowledge of planning or architecture.
Councillors and Tower Hamlets Council employees are not able to apply.
Can I claim expenses?
The Community Development Panel works on a voluntary basis, meaning the panel members are not paid. We will cover reasonable costs for attending meetings, such as travel.
How can I get involved?
We really hope that you’ll apply to be a member of the Community Development Panel.
