This year’s Mayor’s Cup tournament came to a thrilling finale at Mile End Stadium on Sunday 8 September when ACE FC beat Inter Mile End FC to lift the open age trophy. 

The teams went head-to-head in this year’s highly anticipated Mayor’s Cup open age final. Inter Mile End started the game strong, opening the scoring on the day to take the lead. However, ACE FC showed character and equalised not long after making the score 1-1 going into half time.  

The second half started off tightly contested but ACE FC turned things around scoring again to make it 2-1. Inter Mile End put in a strong performance towards the end, seeking an equalising goal, but in the end, ACE FC went on to score another, making the final scoreline 3-1.  

The day also saw Victoria Park FC beat Westward Boys FC to become the U13/14’s Mayor’s Cup champions and Westward Boys overcame Burdett FC to lift the trophy in the U15/16’s Mayor’s cup final.

This year’s tournament was as exciting as ever. A big well done to all the participating teams and those who helped to make the Mayor’s Football Cup 2024 an outstanding success.” 

Held over two weekends, this year’s Mayor’s Cup attracted over 60 teams with over 400 players across eight age categories.  

The junior heats were played on Saturday 7 September, with youngsters packing the mini pitches at Mile End. Kekoa FC stood strong to win the Mayors Cup U8’s final. Prostar Youth put in a solid performance to claim the U9’s trophy along with Vallance FC triumphant in the U11’s final and capping off a great day of football was Aberfeldy FC putting in a great performance to win the U12’s Mayor’s Cup final.  

Cllr Kamrul Hussain, Cabinet Member for Culture and Recreation said:  "It was thrilling to see football clubs and players of all ages compete in this year’s annual tournament, which helps fund grassroots football and encourages residents to foster healthy, active lifestyles. We would like to thank all participants, managers and parents for their support and for taking part in this year’s Mayors Cup 2024 football competition.
