A spokesperson for Tower Hamlets Council said:
“Inaccurate comments have been circulated about the management of a council contract, incorrectly suggesting the contract was awarded and payments amounting to £62m were made under the current leadership. The contract was in fact awarded in 2018. The problems encountered were primarily the result of inadequate arrangements for the management and oversight of the contract.
The Council has now put in place measures that mitigate the risks of this happening again.”
