Tower Hamlets pupils achieved great success in their GCSEs this year, provisional borough results show.
In English, 83 per cent of students achieved grades 9-4 (equivalent to the old A* to C grades).
In Maths, 75 per cent of students achieved grades 9-4.
In the English Baccalaureate, 37 per cent of students achieved grades 9-4 - a 5 per cent increase from last year.
Cllr Maium Talukdar, Deputy Mayor and Cabinet Member for Education, Youth and Lifelong Learning, joined students collecting their results at Mulberry Academy Shoreditch to celebrate their achievements and congratulate them on their successes.
Lutfur Rahman, Executive Mayor of Tower Hamlets, said:
“Congratulations to all the students receiving their results today and thank you to all the education staff who have supported them throughout.
“Whatever they choose to do next, I wish them every success in the future.”

High achievers from Mulberry Academy Shoreditch
Mabel Windram said: “I’m really pleased with my results, and I’m going to stay at Mulberry Academy for sixth form. I am planning to study law in the future.”
Mohammed Sakib Hussain said: “I am very happy, I got a 7 in History which I’m really proud of. I plan on going to university and becoming a History teacher.”
Zakariya Ismail Hussain said: “I got an 8 in Combined Science, a 7 in Maths, a 7 in Computer Science. I want to stay at Mulberry and study Maths, Computer Science and Physics in my A Levels, and go to university too.”
Mohammed Saif Uddin said: “I got five 9’s, one 8, and two 7’s in my GCSE results. In the future I’m looking to do Engineering and I am thinking about going to university too.”

Tower Hamlets Young WorkPath, a council service, provides careers information, advice and guidance about the next steps available to young people, no matter what their results are.
For young people who received their results but are not sure what to do next, the service offers careers interviews in person, over the phone or via video.
