Following her recent election as MP for the Cities of London and Westminster, Cllr Rachel Blake has resigned as a Tower Hamlets councillor for the Bow East Ward of the Council.

As two registered voters in Tower Hamlets have requested that a by-election be held, the Returning Officer Stephen Halsey has confirmed that this will take place on Thursday 12 September 2024.

This is the first election for a council seat since the 2022 Local Elections and the first time that recent changes in the law require voters to provide an accepted form of photo ID when they vote in person in this type of election.

Registered Overseas electors cannot vote at this poll and changes to the rights of EU nationals, implemented by the Elections Act 2022, have not yet been implemented so registered EU citizens can stand as candidates and vote at this poll.

You can visit the dedicated by-election page on the council website to view further information including the full by-election timetable, the Notices of Election and Casual Vacancy, as well as future updates as the process continues.
