Lithium battery fires

Lithium batteries have caused fires in the rubbish lorries. Please do not put batteries in your waste or recycling bin. All batteries (including lithium batteries from e-bikes and e-scooters and other re-chargeable devices) can be taken to the Reuse and Recycling Centre at Northumberland Wharf.

Home Energy Advice Programme

Residents can get support to make their homes warmer this winter while saving money on energy bills with a new programme funded by the Council and delivered by the Bromley by Bow Centre in partnership with SHINE.

Through the Home Energy Advice Programme, we offer:


Free phone service and home visits

During calls or home visits, our team can offer affordable energy-efficiency measures to keep your home warm and save you money.

Workshops to frontline workers

We will deliver training to frontline workers on providing energy efficiency advice within the community. This can be done both online and in person.

Free debt relief and resident support

Support with applying for grants and debt relief funds to clear arrears, reduce utility bills, maximise incomeand signpost into services.

Free Energy Champions training

Through our free 6 to 8 weeks course learners will gain a Level 1 OCN accreditation in fuel poverty, equipping them with energy knowledge.
