Theme 5 - Empower Communities and Fight Crime Scheme 5A – Inequalities Experienced by People and Communities Reflecting Different Equality Groups and Socio-economic Backgrounds

Overview

The Council is committed to bringing communities together to build understanding and to support and empower women. There is a need to challenge racism and all forms of discrimination.

We are focused on upholding equality and diversity in all circumstances, whilst bringing people from different backgrounds together. This will include a commitment to services that address the needs of women from Black, Asian & Multi-Ethnic communities, and faith communities.

Outcomes

The outcome we want to achieve through this scheme are:

  • Reduce inequalities faced by groups with different protected characteristics
  • Protection of children and young people
  • Combating domestic violence
  • Reducing crime and anti-social behaviour
  • Improved opportunities for women and residents from Black, Asian & Multi-Ethnic communities
  • Reduction in structural racism
  • Improved community cohesion, including between different communities and age groups.

8 organisations are delivering activities to meet the following priorities:

  • Addressing inequality for Black Asian & Multi-Ethnic communities and women
  • Creating opportunities for people from different backgrounds to come together

Empowering Communities:- Coming together, sharing their cultures, food and experiences project includes a series of short courses for people from diverse backgrounds and 3 generations across equalities strands.  5 parents & pre-schoolers, plus older people, drawn together to discover and discuss, aiming to increase understanding and appreciation of different cultures.
