Organisational pledge against hate
Tower Hamlets have developed a No Place for Hate (NPFH) Campaign which aims to send clear and consistent messages that hate will not be tolerated in our borough.
This goes beyond a media campaign to encourage positive messages of One Tower Hamlets but also aims to encourage communities to challenge hate if safe to do so.
We recognise that all agencies, statutory, voluntary, community and private sector have a role to play in tackling hate and discrimination and promoting community safety. This is why we have created a NPFH Organisational Pledge for organisations to sign and a NPFH Personal Pledge for any individual that lives, works or visits our borough.
We will:
- Promote and implement a policy that promotes diversity and equality and challenges all forms of discrimination.
- Ensure that our employment, health and safety policies and procedures deal effectively with hate crime or incidents that occur in the workplace whether between employees, or against staff members or the public.
- Embed in our hire policy the Tower Hamlets No Place for Hate Pledge to ensure that events taking place at our premises do not promote any form of hate.
- Check out people booking and ask for details of speakers well in advance.
- Pass on details to relevant LBTH hate crime officers (020 7364 6105/6120) if we have any concerns about the topics/speakers and their track record in terms of hate speech.
- Ensure that all people booking venues are aware of our No Place for Hate commitments and that any bookings/events found to contravene the pledge will be cancelled.
- Display posters and leaflets in our public reception areas condemning all forms of hate and providing information for victims to enable them to access support.
- Review the way our agency responds to the needs of service users or employees who may have experienced hate crime.
- Train our staff on hate crime issues and how to respond to victims who report incidents to them.
- Monitor the cases of hate crime that are reported to our agency, and ensure appropriate records are kept of all reports and action taken.
- Share monitoring information about the number and types of cases that come to our attention with the Tower Hamlets No Place for Hate Forum to contribute to creating a better picture of hate crime in the borough.
- Identify a lead officer in our agency who will maintain up to date information on hate crime issues and service developments in the borough.
- Undertake activities that promote the No Place for Hate Campaign (optional).
- Agree for our organisation’s name and logo to appear on the No Place for Hate campaign web pages and publicity materials if necessary.

Description of services: Wapping Youth FC was formed in February 2013 by a group of young adults who wanted to provide something different for the next generation of promising footballers. The club works with professional football clubs in an attempt to bridge the gap between grassroots and professional football. Wapping Youth FC is based on the principles of peer education and we believe that in order for a young person to learn, the learning will be most effective coming from someone who they can relate to. Although football is a practical game, we as a club believe that the theory side to football is as crucial as the practical. Young people will be undergoing accredited courses and gaining useful qualifications which will help them grow as individuals as well as promising footballers. The club is built on the values of empowering young people in order to acquire the best outcomes. We want to pass on the message that the ‘young people of today are the leaders of tomorrow!’
