92.5 per cent of pupils due to start secondary school in September have been offered a place at one of their preferred secondary schools - a higher proportion than last year.
The London Borough of Tower Hamlets received 3,076 applications to secondary schools this year.
71.1 per cent secured a place at their first preference school, which is a 6.1 per cent increase compared to last year.
89.5 per cent secured a place at one of their top three preferences, which is a 5.4 per cent increase from last year.
All secondary school applicants received an offer of a place at a Tower Hamlets school on National Offer Day 2024.
There are also enough places remaining at schools across the borough to accommodate new arrivals to the area.
This year, prospective pupils have benefitted from the new Mulberry Academy London Dock, which will open in the Wapping area for September 2024.
Lutfur Rahman, Executive Mayor of Tower Hamlets, said:
“I am extremely pleased with the outcome of this year’s secondary admissions process and that we have been able to offer the majority of pupils a place at one of their preferred schools.
“I also look forward to welcoming pupils to Mulberry Academy London Dock for the first time, expanding the opportunities for young people in the borough.”
Cllr Maium Talukdar, Deputy Mayor and Cabinet Member for Education, Youth and Lifelong Learning, said:
“With 97 per cent of schools in Tower Hamlets rated Good or Outstanding by Ofsted, I am delighted that so many pupils will benefit from an excellent education and facilities in the borough.
“We continue to work with schools to ensure pupils receive a high-quality offer to set them up for their promising futures.”
