The council has been shortlisted three times in a prestigious national awards programme for local government.
The Local Government Chronicle Awards, which showcases and celebrates examples of innovation and best practice by councils across the country, has shortlisted Tower Hamlets in three different categories.
The council’s work with schools to enable pupils to become anti-racist, critical thinkers who feel safe and understood at school, has been shortlisted in the ‘Diversity and Inclusion’ category, while the authority’s Tackling Poverty Team has been shortlisted for an award in the ‘Medium Team of the Year’ category.
Tower Hamlets’ Development Viability Team completed the hat-trick for the council on the awards shortlist, after it made the cut in the ‘Small Team of The Year’ category for its work in getting the most affordable homes possible through the planning process – thereby helping those on lower incomes in the borough.
Lutfur Rahman, Executive Mayor of Tower Hamlets, said:
“We’re on a journey in Tower Hamlets to deliver on the most ambitious agenda in local government - and tackling poverty, building more affordable homes and providing the best education possible for our young people are some of our top priorities, so it is extremely rewarding to see that we have been shortlisted for work in these areas.
“To be shortlisted not just once - but three times - for such a highly competitive and prestigious awards event, is a fantastic achievement and testament to the hard-work and dedication of our officers in delivering such positive outcomes for the people of this borough.”
The winners will be announced at the Local Government Chronicle Awards 2024 ceremony on Wednesday 12 June 2024.
