The achievements of young people in Tower Hamlets have been celebrated at the 2024 Youth Achievement Awards, which took place at the Atrium last week (December, 5).

Organised by Young Tower Hamlets and the Young Mayor Team, the awards recognised and celebrated young people who have shown exceptional growth, commitment, and passion over the last year.

Over 70 young people were nominated across ten categories by individuals in the community including teachers, youth workers, support workers, mentors, and social workers.

Hosted by Youth Council Members Daniel Momoh and Liliana Noor, the awards ceremony also featured musical performances from the youth orchestra, Bianca Santos and spoken word artists Alyssa and Maryam.

Mayor of Tower Hamlets, Lutfur Rahman, said:

"I congratulate all the nominees for their exceptional achievements. I am immensely proud of the invaluable work they are doing in our community. Their contributions are leaving a lasting impact, and we are truly fortunate to have them as members of our community.

“As a Council, we have much to celebrate when it comes to our young people, and we are committed to continuing our investment into the youth services. That's why I've expanded the number of youth centres in Tower Hamlets to 16 sites, launched Young Tower Hamlets, introduced university bursaries, and made our council the first in the country to restore the Education Maintenance Allowance after it was scrapped by the government. We will continue to invest to ensure greater opportunities for our young residents to thrive."

Deputy Mayor Maium Talukdar, Cabinet Member for Education, Youth and Lifelong Learning, said:

“I’m incredibly proud of our young people. All of the nominees and winners have made an outstanding impact and should be proud of themselves. It’s great to see them celebrated for their hard work and dedication.

“As a council we strive to ensure our young people have the best opportunities and are recognised for their achievements.  Congratulations and well done to our young people.”
