Tower Hamlets Winter Fuel Payment

The Tower Hamlets Winter Fuel Payment is a scheme by the council to support those missing out on the government’s Winter Fuel Payment. The government’s Winter Fuel Payment (previously made to all pensioners) is now restricted to those on certain benefits including Pension Credit. If you were not eligible for the government’s Winter Fuel Payment, you may be eligible for the Tower Hamlets Winter Fuel Payment.

Please note, some residents will have already have received a letter in the post to redeem their payment. All other residents should apply for the Tower Hamlets Winter Fuel Payment below.

To qualify for the scheme, you must be:

  • A Tower Hamlets resident
  • Born before 23 September 1958
  • Not receive Pension Credit, or any other benefits that entitle you to the Winter Fuel Payment from central government.

You will need to provide personal details, including your bank details (if you have an account in your own name).

Be prepared to upload the documents below:

  • A proof of identity and age, either:
    • An official photo ID OR 
    • Your state pension letter AND another proof of identity (for example birth certificate, marriage certificate, medical card, utility bill)
  • A bank statement (this should show your address and be dated in the last 3 months) OR if you do not have a bank account in your name, another proof of address.

If successful and you meet the criteria, you will be awarded a one-off £175 payment. The deadline for submitting applications is 24 January 2025. You will find out in late January if your application has been successful. Payments will not be made before this stage.
