This year's festival focuses on the theme of love in all its guises.

Live plays, music, dance, walks, talks and exhibitions will liven up venues across the borough this autumn, with the return of this year’s annual Season of Bangla Drama from 1 to 26 November.

This year, the unique British Bengali festival focuses on the theme of love in all its guises.

The festival’s events tackle the phenomenon of British Bengali identity with a range of perspectives, and all plays, including debut performances, are relevant to an East London audience.

Lutfur Rahman, Executive Mayor of Tower Hamlets, said:

“After 20 years, A Season of Bangla Drama, our acclaimed and unique theatre festival, is going from strength to strength, giving communities from across the borough and beyond opportunities to come together, celebrate and discover new writing and performance.

“We are proud of the talent that will have a platform at this festival, giving a voice to young and emerging writers as well as those who are more established.”

Topics explored include the notion of love conquering all despite adversity. Real life is prominent in three singular productions. The power of poetry is showcased; and comedy within marriage is given a spotlight.

Cllr Iqbal Hossain, Cabinet Member for Culture and Recreation, said:

“It is exciting to see that A Season of Bangla Drama’s programme of events has plenty on offer for everyone to enjoy.

“We hope residents and visitors alike can make the most of this diverse and inspiring month-long festival.”
