Screening
Screening is a way of checking people’s health using a screening test to identify those who may be at increased risk of a disease or conditions. All screening tests are scientifically proven to be effective and could mean that an early detection of serious conditions can be treated or prevented before it’s too late.
There are cancer screening programmes (see cancer section) and non-cancer screening programmes, which include:
- antenatal and new-born hearing
- diabetes retinopathy
- abdominal aortic aneurysm
- Down’s syndrome and foetal anomaly ultrasound
- sickle cell and talassemia
- infection diseases in pregnancy.
Work we are doing locally to tackle this issue
