Infections and diseases
Infectious and food borne diseases are important causes of ill health, and Tower Hamlets has the fifth highest incidence of tuberculosis (TB) in London.
Work we are doing locally to tackle this issue
Public Health works to address the factors that contribute to infectious and food borne diseases, such as deprivation, overcrowding, poor nutrition, and homelessness, and to raise awareness and ensure access to treatment.
Current work:
-
Conducting outreach work to access hard to reach groups
-
Producing TB resources to support awareness raising in the community and other TB events
-
Providing training for health care professionals and religious leaders
-
Piloting TB directly observed therapy in pharmacies to increase treatment completion rates
Future plans:
-
Working with local partners to implement the London TB plan.
